YOUR CABINET STRIPPED, STAINED, SEALER AND FINISHING COATS APPLIED, AND POLISHED

Do you have a lovely old valve radio which you enjoy listening to? Is the wooden cabinet looking a little rough with age? I can restore the cabinet for a very reasonable price. You don't have to pay a fortune to have your radio cabinet stripped of old wax and varnish, re-stained, sealer and finishing coats applied, and finally hand polished. As with all my restoration jobs, the work is done 'in house'. In other words, I don't send cabinets away to be restored.

Do bear in mind that the restored cabinet will not look like new. A vintage or antique radio cabinet will reflect its age, and that aged look should be retained. I totally disagree with making an antique radio cabinet look like new or, worse still, better than new.

When I restore a radio cabinet, where possible, I keep the original veneer intact. Also, I would never dream of spraying antique furniture with lacquer or modern varnish. Perish the thought! Once I've restored a radio cabinet, I give it a beautiful satin finish by hand, using a quality beeswax and carnauba polish. To spray it with lacquer would be sacrilege.

If you want your lovely old radio and its cabinet looked after
email me, or give me a ring, and we'll talk about it.

WHAT IF THE WOOD VENEER IS BEYOND REPAIR?

Most scratched and chipped radio cabinets will need stripping, staining, sealing and finishing and finally polishing to bring them back to their former glory. Unfortunately, some cabinets will have been too badly damaged. If this is the case, you have two choices... You can either scrap the radio, which would be a shame, or you can have the veneer replaced. Yes, this is a specialist job, but it needn't cost you the earth.

If your radio cabinet has deteriorated to the point where the old veneer is coming away or the cabinet has severe damage, you can still save your treasured radio. Here at the Radio Workshop, I now offer a complete 'in house' cabinet re-veneering service. Let me take a look at your radio cabinet and give you an estimate for re-veneering, staining, sealing and finishing and finally polishing.

Cabinet restoration - electronic restoration

Cabinet restoration is separate from electronic restoration. In other words, an estimate to repair or restore your radio will not include the cost of repairing or restoring the cabinet - unless otherwise stated. During a radio repair or restoration, I will give the cabinet a quick clean and polish as part of the service procedure. However, full cabinet restoration, including speaker cloth replacement, is a separate issue.
