Join us in our local group @SUSSEX:

I’m starting a JS8 group @SUSSEX. The aim is to bring together JS8 enthusiasts from across the county of Sussex in the UK. The group will be fairly local, initially, depending on the band and time we decide to use, but I’m hoping it will expand. During the day, the 40 metre band might be worth trying. After dark, 160 metres might be an idea. If you’re interested or have any comments, let me know. [email protected]

Some help from AI:

1. Group Callsigns:

A group is simply a callsign that begins with the @ symbol. For example: @ALLCALL → everyone can see it (broadcast). @NET or @GROUP1 → anyone using that same group name will see those messages. You don’t need to “join” — you just need to use the same group name in your transmissions.

2. Sending to a Group:

In the “To” field, instead of a callsign, type the group name. Example: @SUSSEX anyone on frequency?

3. Receiving Group Messages:

If someone else sends a message to @SUSSEX and you are monitoring the frequency, you’ll see it in your receive window.

4. Common Groups:

ALLCALL → general broadcast to everyone listening. Custom ones → NETCONTROL, EMCOMM, FIELDOPS, etc. You and your friends just agree on a group name and use it. So, to “join” a group, you don’t register or request access — you just start using the same @GroupName in your To field, and make sure your station is monitoring the right frequency.
