MAY 2023:
This is the old site. The repeater has now moved to Whippingham, East Cowes.
Both my trips to the Isle of Wight in 2019 included a journey along Down Lane to a very high hill behind Ventnor to the old radar site. Here are a few photos of some beautiful aerials and masts, including the GB3IW 70cms repeater aerial. The Niton Radio aerial photo was taken a few years ago at another location. More info on GB3IW here.

I can’t keep away from the old radar site! During my second visit, I worked a good friend, Leon, through GB3WO, the Worthing repeater. In fact, there’s a photo of me sitting in my car chatting to him. I was pleased that my Baojie BJ-218 25 Watt mini mobile radio wasn’t desensed by all the RF coming from the commercial aerials on the hill.

A SHORT VIDEO OF THE GB3IW AND NATS SITE
The original audio was blown away by the wind so I had to narrate the video!
