Update 23/2/26:
I’ve just taken delivery of a Dictograph telephone/intercom model HL-10. It’s an 8 key console system manufactured by Dictograph Telephones Ltd, Croydon, England. It was manufactured in June 1963. Whoever assembled it had just experienced the dreadful winter of 1962/63. The UK was covered in snow which lasted for months. I was 12 years old, I remember it well!
The Dictograph Company produced specialized intercom telephone systems intended for private, internal communication. These systems operated independently of the public telephone network and were typically installed within a single building or between closely located buildings. Communication was managed through a Master Station, usually configured as a loudspeaker telephone, while Sub-Stations were more compact and featured a handset or watch receiver with call keys. The entire system was wired together using multicore cable.
This internal telephone or, intercom, won’t be a great deal of use to me. However, it’s in keeping with my other electromechanical equipment. I have a candlestick telephone with bell box, a servants’ bell box flag board, a 1940s round Ekco radio, a Gents Master Clock No36 and a couple of slave clocks, a lovely GPO Strowger bell type 56C and many more items.
