KB LR10

kblr10This is a lovely radio in great condition, but there’s one major problem, the knobs are missing. I’ve checked the internet and can I find any? Sadly, no. With long medium and short wave, this KB LR10 is a little gem.

KB FB10 toaster radio

kb-fb10-01This is a beautiful example of the KB FB-10 Toaster Radio. It’s known as the toaster radio because it looks like a toaster. Some say that it also gets as hot as a toaster, but I disagree. Maybe the hot radios need a little attention? I’ve fully restored this little gem and it’s working perfectly. Apart from the usual coupling and decoupling capacitors, I’ve changed the smoothing caps and the dial drive cord. The dial glass is in remarkable condition – in fact, it’s as good as new.

The cabinet isn’t cracked or chipped but it does need a clean with a damp cloth. I’m not going to do a great deal to the cabinet as this is a highly collectable radio and, as with any antique, it’s better left in its original condition. The speaker cloth has gone a little fluffy with age but I’m going to leave it as it is.

Ferranti Nova

ferranti-nova-02This bakelite radio was manufactured around 1935. Covering the long and medium wave bands, it is surprisingly sensitive and has good audio output. A nice feature is the mother of pearl dial.

Ferguson 454

ferguson-454This 1945 Ferguson is a real beauty. It even has an RF amplifier. However, it’s going to take me some time to restore it to its former glory. A mouse has been in residence inside the cabinet, and he’s chewed the aerial input coil which is now open circuit. He’s also chewed some of the wiring but that’s not a real problem. The cabinet is good and so is the dial glass, but the chassis, which was originally painted blue at the factory, is now somewhat rusty. This will be a major restoration job and you can follow the progress of this lengthy project, step by step, by checking this page regularly. Don’t check too regularly though as it’s going to take me some time to complete the job.
